Lily Smith with a narrow bowls win over Lesley Kibble

THE semi-final of the Tea Gardens Women’s Bowling Clubs’ Minor Singles Championship was played on 30th September where Lily Smith was opposed to Loretta Baker and Lesley Kibble played Jeanette Emmett.

Lily had a very close encounter in her game, but finally came out on top, winning 25-21.

Lesley defeated Jeanette 25-15.

On this day the Social Bowls winners, after a draw of the cards were; Pat Wilson, Claire Brown and Lorraine Harvey.

Then, two days later, on 2nd October, the  well anticipated Final was played.

Great conditions greeted the two finalists for the Club Minor Singles Championship.

Lily Smith established a good lead early in the match and after 8 ends led Lesley by 12 shots to 4.

Over the next 7 ends Lesley, played some precision bowls, closing the gap and hitting the front after 15 ends.

Lesley opened up a 3 shot lead and the score after 19 ends was 19-16 in Lesley’s favour.

Lily ‘dug deep’ to see the scores tied on 23 all going into the 26th end.

Lesley won the 26th end and only needed one shot to take the title leading 24-23.

Holding 3 in the head Lesley seemed assured to take the match.

Lily had very little option but to play a weighted on-shot at the head.

The shot she played showed great composure and was the shot of the match.

The bowl smashed into the head and moved the jack back to her two bowls at the rear of the green.

The match was over and the very close, final score was, Lily Smith 25, Lesley Kibble 24.
