MANY Myall Coast locals will know John Hughes through his work as president of the local Lions Club.

But John has another passion: line dancing.
John and wife Jennifer have been line dancing for over 20 years and have both won medals in the Australian Line Dancing Championships.
Recently the Hawks Nest couple travelled to Melbourne for the “Southern State Line Dance Championships’’.
“Jennifer was a judge and I was an MC and DJ over the weekend,” John told News Of the Area.
“We have been a part of the Southern State Line Dance Championships since it began 8 years ago.”
“I gave up competing a few years ago and have been involved in the MC/ DJ role ever since.’’
“This was the first year that Jennifer has not competed in the championships so she was able to devote time to being part of the judging panel,” John said.
Their involvement in the SSLDC was recognised in 2015 when they were inducted into the Southern State Line Dance Championships.
John was also President of the Line Dance Association of Australia from 2014 to 2016.
Jennifer is a very well known in the line dance world as a top competitor, choreographer and instructor.
“She ran the Northern Rider’s Line Dance Club for many years in Sydney before moving to Hawks Nest,” John said.
Jennifer now runs Myall Coast Line Dancers and conducts two classes at the Masonic Lodge Hall in Tea Gardens on a Monday afternoon and Thursday evening.
If you’d like to join in a great fun class or for more information you can contact John on 0409 399 817.
