The evening also welcomed three new Lions, Jess Gordon, Heather Aitken and David Brown, who took their oaths in front of District Chairperson, Inga Kasch during the formalities.

“Bulahdelah has done some wonderful things in a short period of time,” Inga told News Of The Area.

“It’s a fantastic club and what they have achieved, especially to help their town since the bypass, has been tremendous, and their enthusiasm for their work is just superb.”

Inga said the Lions River Park is a “wonderful initiative” that “brings business into the town”.

Some of the Lions’ other projects during the past 12 months include the Driver Reviver Program, collection for the Red Shield Appeal, catering for community events and involvement in the Red Cross Breakfast Club at Bulahdelah Central School.

Outgoing President, Roger Dixon paid tribute to the hard-working Lions, before passing the gong and gavel to new President, Arthur Baker.

Speaking with News Of The Area, Arthur said the main objective for the coming year is to get the Community Park up and running.

“We want to make it a good activity park for all of us now and for everyone in the future,” he said.

“It’s a long road ahead, but hopefully we will get to the end of it.”

Other members of the newly invested 2017-2018 Board include Vice-President Judy Dixon, Secretary Ruth Butler, Treasurer Ian Mason and Public Officer Rodney Lansdowne.

This year, Lions International is celebrating 100 years of service to communities.

“Lions Clubs are about bringing the community together to help other people,” Inga said.
