“The shows were amazing,” Connor said.

“At first I was really nervous, but then I was fine and I loved it.”

The Year 6 student from St Joseph’s Primary School in Bulahdelah was selected for the starring role of Monty after his dramatic flair was noticed during auditions.

“I got the role just by practicing my hardest,” Connor told News Of The Area.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got in, I was so excited, it was such a privilege to receive it.

The cast was made up of 130 actors, singers, dancers and musicians from 29 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

Connor said after months of travelling to rehearsals in Newcastle to perfect the musical spectacular, there was certainly a buzz of excitement as the curtain lifted on opening night.

“I am practically famous there now, I walked out and everyone was cheering, going crazy about it,” he said.

“My fellow performers have been really fun to be with, we are all very good friends.”

Connor said he saw ASPIRE’s first production when he was in kindergarten and “loved them straightaway”.

“People from Aspire also came to the school last year and did all these drama games with us, it was really fun and exciting so I decided that I would give it a go,” he said.

With his first professional production now confidently under his belt, the talented performer said he has no plans to leave the stage just yet.

“It has been so much fun, so I might take this further and do drama in high school and audition again next year,” Connor said.

  1. Oh wow, how wonderful. Congratulations Conner and wishing you more success in your future. Your Mum’s parent used to live just 2 houses away from me and your mum used to come and play with my daughter, Chantel Martin, when we all lived in Bourke. Again, congrats and say hello to your grandparents from me, Julie/Farnham/Martin/Mahony
