When 600 dancers come together for six hours of line dancing and socialising.

Recently local line dance instructor Jennifer Hughes and her husband John travelled to Sydney for the annual NSW Line Dance Ball at the QuayCentre in Olympic Park.

“The theme this year was ‘All the Colours of the Rainbow’ and the huge venue came alive with movement and colour as the line dancers filled the dance floor,” Jennifer said.

Along with the fun, the event raised funds for Ronald McDonald House near Westmead’s Children’s Hospital.

Jennifer and John, who were also on the organising committee for the Ball, were extremely pleased with the result.

“This year $18,000 was donated to support the wonderful work they do caring for the families of critically ill children” Jennifer said.

“As well as the funds raised at the Ball, donations are made throughout the year to the NSW Line Dance Ball from line dance groups and individuals all over Australia.”

John Hughes, the Committee Treasurer, said, “The Ball has been running for 11 years now and the total raised through the generosity of the line dance community’s support for the Ball is almost $280,000.”

“This year a plaque will be placed in one of the rooms in the new 60 room complex at Westmead dedicating it to the NSW Line Dance Ball specifically and the line dance community in general,” John said.

“The $18,000 will support families to use the room over the next twelve months.”

Jennifer, who heads the “Myall Coast Line Dancers”, has classes at the Tea Gardens Masonic Hall on Monday afternoons and Thursday evenings.
