THE Snack’N’Rap event held recently at Mallabula was a wonderful success, bringing together industry professionals, young people, councillors and volunteers to make the event possible.

The event has been running for close to 12 years in Tilligerry.

It was originally an event run by Port Stephens Council, but has since been handed back to the community, and is run by the Tilligerry Youth Community Action group (TYCA).

TYCA is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation running youth programs in Port Stephens, with the goal of empowering young people to fulfil their potential.

Spokespersons at the Snack’N’Rap event took the time to recognise the growth of the event and acknowledge the founders of Snack’N’Rap, Shane Kennedy and James Campbell.

The rap side of Snack’N’Rap was brought back at the Mallabula event, with all the participants coming together in a circle to share their thoughts on what it means to them to have something like Snack’N’Rap.

Jamie Brewster from TYCA told News Of The Area, “The young people in attendance provided positive messages and connections to those messages through the content and delivery of their rap sequences.”

“It was a fantastic day, showing lots of creativity from the young people of Tilligerry.”

Local business ‘Mo-Foe & Mo-Joe’ clothing were extremely generous and donated a free shirt or singlet from their new range to every attendee.

This gesture was received by the young people with much excitement.

The Hair Bar Tanilba Bay at Tanilba Bay and Export Freight Systems graciously donated food and drink for the event.

Councillor Steve Tucker and Councillor Sally Dover from Port Stephens Council attended the event,

James Campbell, the Senior Community Development and Engagement Officer from Port Stephens Council also volunteered his time to be a part of the new generation of Snack’N’Rap.

An amazing day with lots of positivity and creativity with Tilligerry’s young people was had, and we look forward to sharing details of the next event, which is scheduled for 18 March at Raymond Terrace Skate Park.
