The event is scheduled for Sunday 5 March.

This once a year event is open to all groups, families and residents in our community, and is the perfect opportunity to

show collectively that we care about the appearance and the amenity of our community.

Port Stephens Councillor Geoff Dingle told News Of The Area, “By doing something by ourselves for ourselves we demonstrate we have a strong sense of community, which is so important for healthy and vibrant communities.”

“The community centre and recreation park are currently looking tip top with energetic effort from our hard working Council grounds staff.”

“Now we have an opportunity to enhance their efforts by cleaning up the litter in our streets, reserves, shopping centres and parks,” he said.

The Clean up Australia Day commences at 8.30am, and registrations are at Medowie community centre front entrance.

Registration covers all participants against injury or accidents and collects the statistics for our community’s involvement.

Children under the age of 18 require some adult supervision.

It is recommend that all participants wear solid footwear, sun smart clothing, a hat and gardening gloves.

The Tidy Towns and Lions Club will supply bags, some spare gloves and loan pick up sticks.

Sunscreen and drinking water will be available and the community centre, and amenities will be accessible.

Organisers are happy for you or your group to choose your street or favourite reserve, or they will select an area that needs attention for you.

A pick-up service for filled bags will be provided so you don’t have to drag bags back to the community centre.

Simply leave them on the curb in a pick-up zone and let our organisers know the location.

Let’s make this a great effort and encourage others to keep our community free of litter.
