MEDOWIE’S Rugby Union Club will be holding a Hunter Breast Cancer Fundraising Day on Saturday, 30 July from 9am at Boyd Oval.

The Gala Day, open to the public, is the one day of the season that all teams from the club, U7s, U14s, and Seniors play their home games in Medowie on the same day.

The Seniors game is scheduled for 3pm.

Ms Kelly Mason, Committee Member at the Club, told Medowie News Of The Area, ”There will be face painting, fairy floss, great food, sausage sizzle, and a raffle with fantastic prizes to be raffled.”

“We are amazed at how much the community comes together for a good cause, it has been awesome, we are all proud to be Medowians.”

Amongst the prizes, it has been announced that Australian Rugby Union has donated a signed Wallabies jersey to the Club for raffling.

A generous Medowie local has also donated a framed and signed State of Origin Jersey to be auctioned on the day.

Medowie’s own coffee van run by Hennessy’s Coffee will also be coming on the day and will donate $1 for every hot beverage sold.

Ms Lisa Cook, parent volunteer, told Medowie News Of The Area, “The day is a great opportunity for the town to come out and support the local team: everyone is playing at the same spot.”

The Club is aiming to raise at least $3000, and Jackie Murphy, Committee Member, who has been with the Club for 23 years said, “In the past four years we have been wearing pink socks for the Breast Cancer Foundation and this year we decided to make it a bigger event and invite the whole community to our Gala Day.”

All teams from the local Hunter Junior Rugby region will be organising a Breast Cancer Fundraising event on the weekend of the 30 July to support the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation.

Ms Jackie Murphy, Committee Members, told Medowie News Of The Area, “Cancer touches too many families, it is such an important cause to support.”

“All funds raised at the Gala Day will stay in the local area to support women from the Hunter area.”

The Club’s committee has said the support and sponsorship from local businesses has been overwhelming.

Major sponsors for the day include Hennessy Coffee, Medowie Meets, and Sweet Things bakery at Heatherbrae.
