MEDOWIE Rural Fire Brigade are calling all residents to join them for the ‘Get Ready weekend’ this Saturday at the station in preparation for the coming bush fire season.

The weekend will see volunteer firefighters holding events and activities at the Medowie fire station, giving residents a chance to talk about what they can do to Get Ready for bushfires.

NSW RFS members have been busy preparing for this season by undertaking hazard reduction burns, maintaining firefighting equipment and undergoing training.

Get Ready weekend is a chance for Port Stephens Residents to also do their bit and begin planning.

Ken Johnson from Medowie Rural fire brigade told News Of The Area, “We have many events and activities planned for Medowie this Saturday, and we encourage all residents to come down and have a chat about some relatively simple and easy things you can put in place to be ready for bushfire season.”

Activities for Medowie residents include:

For the kids; Meet Mighty Mike the mini fire truck simulation machine, use a fire hose to knock down targets, have your photo taken in uniform and have a look inside the trucks.

For everyone; Inspect the station and trucks, see a kitchen fire simulation, have a free sausage sandwich, discuss the bush fire risk of your house and ask volunteers any fire related questions.

In the week following Open Day, volunteers will also be spending some time at the Medowie supermarkets providing advice on steps to take to get ready for the fire season.

Please take the opportunity to come to the open day, or approach volunteers at the shopping centre.

The open day will be open from 10am until 2pm.
