THE Cub Scouts program in Bulahdelah has expanded with the recent addition of a Scouts group catering for older children up to the age of 15.

New Scout leader Colin Griffiths has stepped forward to take on the group and said he is looking forward to the challenges.

“I hope to get the kids out into the environment and teach them to be more confident in themselves,” Mr Griffiths said.

“It is all about having fun while learning new skills for life.”

Mr Griffiths said he was planning many outdoor activities in addition to preparing the Scouts for the next Jamboree which will be held in Adelaide.

The new leader has had a long association with the Scouting organisation beginning with his involvement in Cub Scouts during his youth in Cabramatta.

He has also had many years’ experience as a Scout Leader.

The Bulahdelah group currently has more than a dozen members involved in the Cubs and Scouts programs and Mr Griffith said he hopes that membership will continue grow.

“With only a Cubs program previously running for younger children, the addition of the Scouts group now means we are able to cater for older kids as well as younger ones,” he said.

“I’ve been networking with other Scout groups in the district and we hope to have more members by the end of the year, we have a lot of work to do but I’m up to the challenge.”

Mr Griffith joins Cub Leaders David and Teresa Mort, Andrew Garemyn and Nicky Hammerl who ensure the Cubs and Scouts have a lot of fun with plenty of adventures and new experiences.

Enquiries regarding Bulahdelah Cubs and Scouts can be made at the Scout Hall in Stroud Street on Monday nights between 6-7.30pm.
