Hosted by the Quilters Guild of NSW, this is one of the most prestigious annual shows Australian quilters enter to demonstrate their skills in design, sewing, and creativity.

With his quilt ‘The Caterpillar Race’, Caesar, who was five at the time of piecing together and sewing the quilt, said of entering the Show, “It’s so cool.”

For his efforts, he was awarded second prize in the Junior Member (Up to Year 6) category.

Asked how he felt about winning, Caesar, a humble boy said, “The judges called out my name.”

“I was happy and I liked it.”

Amongst Caesar’s prizes was a few packs of fabric, kits, and wadding.

Enough to start on his next masterpiece.

“I started off cutting the circles and then stitched and cut to make semi-circles.”

“We made the antennae move in different ways.”

Scarlett designed her modern-inspired quilt ‘The Queen’s Bracelet’, using an assortment of her favourite colours to create and sew the bright work of art.

Showing her love of design, Scarlett said, “I took the role of designing and naming the quilt.”

“I think the colours go really well together.”

“I made it with fabrics won at previous competitions and fabric grandma got us from New Zealand.”

When asked what she would say to other children to encourage them to take up quilting, Scarlett enthusiastically said, “Try it out, it’s the best!”

Mother and Master Quilter, Mrs Clare Lewis told News Of The Area that sometimes people didn’t believe that children so young can sew.

To circumvent the doubters and nay-sayers, Mrs Lewis takes audio visual footage of her children sewing the quilts and self-explaining what they are doing.
