Myall Masters Swimming Carnival

MEMBERS of the Myall Masters Swimming Club have plenty to celebrate after yet another victory at their own Carnival in Tea Gardens last Saturday.

‘’This is what we call the Branch Pointscore for clubs right throughout New South Wales,” President Chris Lock said.

Eighteen Clubs descended on the Myall, coming from all over the State.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase both towns, Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens, and the event as the event is more of a fun day,” Chris said.

The Myall Masters Swimming group fielded 28 competitors.

Ages ranged from 18 to 85 years young.

“People love it because they love the environment and it is one of the few pools that is so close to the water,” Chris said.

More than 100 swimmers took to the water, despite the extreme weather conditions.

At 74 years of age, Chris swam in four events competing in the 75 to 79 age group.

“It’s only a number,” he said. “And as long as I finish.”

In all there were 16 events including a City vs Country Shootout.

Sixteen swimmers from the Warringah Masters in Sydney’s north have competed in every Tea Gardens Carnival.

“It’s such a good day, we just love coming up,” Peter Myers said.

At the end of a very hot day of competition, Myall Masters won the meet with 821 points. Novacastrions came second on 725 and Warringah third with 597 points.

‘’We’re the smallest town in NSW to have a Carnival of this size, for us to do so, takes a lot of community support,” Rhonda Bobako said.

The Myall Masters would also like to thank their sponsors and those who contributed to their fund raising raffle, Tea Gardens Real Estate, Coles, Hawks Nest Golf Club, Hawks Nest Newsagency, Hawks Nest Pharmacy, Ice Cream Shack, Marlin Marine & Tackle, Sumeru, Tea Gardens Hotel/Motel, Woodwards Building and Gardening Centre and Tile Rescue.
