
PORT Stephens District Cubs held their first ever Billy Cart Derby recently, with five joeys, 55 cubs, five scouts, ten leaders and 25 adult helpers in attendance.

Bunnings came on board with fun evenings of building the Billy Carts at no cost to the Clubs.
Bunnings Heatherbrae donated material for the Billy Carts to 1st Medowie Scout group and Bunnings Taylors Beach donated materials to Nelson Bay, Anna Bay and Tilligerry, with the groups doing ‘do it yourself’ nights at Bunnings throughout the week.
The Billy Cart Derby was held at Boomerang Park, Raymond Terrace.
Groups who participated were 1st Raymond Terrace, 1st Medowie, 1st Nelson Bay sea scouts, 1st Tilligerry and 1st Clarence Town Scouts.
The Billy Cart Derby was a great success and organisers report that lots of fun had by all Scouts Groups.
The derby consisted of one straight, fast downhill course, and one timed zigzag course, with semi finals, finals and an adult’s race at the end of the day.
The overall winner of the day was an all girls team from Raymond Terrace, Clarence Town boys took out second place and a Medowie mixed team won third place.
Adults didn’t miss out on the fun, with an adults only race towards the end of the day, and a water fight for everyone to cool down at the end of the day.
