It is an independent, not-for-profit social group for men and ladies, founded by local resident Bev Lee in 1995, after she recognised there were many in the community who needed to simply meet new friends.

The focus of the group is solely on friendship and is supported by a hard-working committee who ensure that the members have lots of outings and activities to enjoy together such as dining out in local venues, casual barbecues on the beach, movie days, walking for pleasure, coach trips, and short holidays away together.

The Friendship Group meets on the last Tuesday of the month in the corporate area of Diggers, Nelson Bay, commencing at 5.00pm and it is at these regular meetings that upcoming events are announced.

There is usually a guest speaker, and a lucky door prize.

Following the meeting, members enjoy dinner together in the club and presently there are 120 members, so there is plenty of opportunity to make new friends.

New members are very welcome.

Fran told News Of The Area, “This group is a unique, single entity, stand alone group started so many years ago, that still works hard to keep the focus clearly on friendship.”

“Leaving old friends, familiar places and family members behind to start a new life can mean a period of loneliness and great adjustment for new residents in this area, and it is finding new friends, new activities through a group such as this that gives us all a lead into a new and happy life together,” she said.
