THE Port Stephens Community Drug Action Team wants to hear from people who would like to make a difference.

Community Drug Action Teams (CDATs) are groups of people who are working together in NSW to prevent harm from drugs and alcohol.

Alcohol is a major factor in domestic and public violence and well being.

The 2013 National Drug Strategy Household Survey found that more than one-third of people’s drinking habits had placed them at risk of an alcohol-related injury in the past year.

Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s Senior Community Development Officer, Beau Newell said, “There are a range of opportunities available to get involved and help prevent alcohol and drug harm.”

“We’re looking for locals in all areas of Port Stephens to contribute their skills or to help other CDAT members, to run local community events throughout the year.”

“CDAT is led by the community, for the community, the more people who get involved the more we can work together to tackle drug and alcohol problems in the greater Port Stephens area,” he said.

Elizabeth Schiemer told News Of The Area, “I am hoping to find enough people from the Bay to form a group here.”

“To have a better lifestyle we need to think global, act local,” she said.

“The Bay is geographically distant from Raymond Terrace and The Australian Drug Foundation could provide support with a Community Drug Action Team to establish positive programs in our own locality.”
