This season with international travel off for Australians more and more people have been discovering our patch of paradise.

Eileen Gilliland, CEO of Destination Port Stephens, is mindful that the restaurant and tour businesses are still unable to operate at full capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions, but believes there are plenty of positives for local tourism.

“The summer holidays are peak season every year but this year we had a good lead up through November and December and the peak is going longer into January.

“There are still a lot of people here when normally it slows down around 10 January this year we are seeing visitation stronger right through January,” she said.

Ms Gilliland is looking forward to a positive peak again for the Easter break.

“With most of the borders not open we are getting a real boost from domestic visitation, a lot of people are visiting that haven’t been here before and we are hoping to see repeat visitation in the long run,” she said.
