With their Best Start Assessments finished, regular classes have now begun. For parents new to school, there are opportunities to be involved in the school such as reading groups, canteen, and P&C. Mrs Holly McKew, Vice President of the Wirreanda Public School told News Of The Area, “I highly recommend parents give volunteering a go.” “I have made a lot of new friends and contacts within the community.” “My daughter is a lot less anxious knowing that I am at the school regularly.” “I have a greater appreciation for the teachers and staff at the school since I started volunteering.” “I see lots of the planning and behind the scenes work.” News Of The Area caught up with some Kindy kids and their parents this week to feature in the going back to school gallery. Cohen Wyatt from Wirreanda Public School told News Of The Area, “”My favourite part of the first day of school was when my big sister came and found me and surprised me at lunch time.” Bella McFarlane and Evie Jeffery have started at Wirreanda Public School. Both their mums are “Excited the girls are off to Kindy and in the same class.” “They are more than ready for big school and the year that lies ahead.” Evie and Bella told News Of The Area they “Are excited about learning to read, lunchtime, and playing.” Tahlia Kowald at Shoal Bay Public School says, “My favourite thing so far at school is all the cool things I’m learning and going to the canteen for an ice block with my buddy.” Jaxson McGhee is at Medowie Public School and says he is, “Very excited to catch the school bus and go to the canteen.” Phoenix Cassar, at Grahamstown Public School says, “My favourite thing about school is playing handball and rips with my big brother; he shows me around my new school.” Indie Magill has started at Irrawang Public School with a broken leg. She said, “The best thing about my first day was being able to stay whole day with broken leg and going to the library.” Her parents, Elizabeth and Brett Macgill say, “We will miss having her at home, our little shadow, but excited for her new life journey.” Tori Coates, starting at Medowie Public School says, “My favourite thing about big school so far is doing craft and playing with my Year 6 buddy Ellie.” Tobias Hill, starting at Medowie Christian School told News Of The Area, “My favourite thing about school so far is playing with all my new friends and meeting my lovely teacher.” His Mum, Reggae Hill said, “It was such a joy to see Tobias walk into his classroom with such enthusiasm—thumbs up all the way!” By Heather SHARP Cohen Wyatt, Wirreanda Public School.
