Through the winter break it’s never easy to keep the children occupied, but Tea Gardens Library did it’s best to ease the burden.

A puppet making workshop proved a great success with the youngsters and staff at the Library.

“I don’t know who had more fun, the children or me,” Librarian Chris Shelly said.

When News Of the Area dropped into the Library it was organised chaos with a big dose of happy laughing children added to the mix.

Sock Puppets were the order of the day and proved to be a big hit.

“We supplied all the materials including the socks for the children to decorate,” Chris said.

Given free reign, the children created happy socks, funny socks, and some downright scary sock puppets which came alive with the help of the youngster’s ingenious creative skills.

In this age of electronic gadgetry it was a welcome sight to see the puppets come to life, much as they did when the art of puppetry began some three thousand years ago.

The puppets also proved to be a great source of family fun with brothers and sisters enjoying some friendly banter and great play acting.
