The Club applied to be part of the scheme last year but were deemed ineligible, however TOMRA Cleanaway, who operate the network of collection points throughout NSW, recently reversed their decision.
Club Secretary Allan Freihaut said contracts have now been signed and the site should be up and running within two weeks.
“Many small towns like Bulahdelah missed out on the opportunity to be part of the scheme when it was introduced,” he said.
“We have now accepted the offer from TOMRA and we are happy to support our community by giving the scheme a go.”
The Club will be an over-the-counter collection site, meaning every individual container will need to be counted manually and checked for eligibility by staff.
Cans must be uncrushed and bottles need to have their labels attached to be eligible for the 10-cent refund on offer.
Allan said containers will be able to be redeemed at set times which will be advertised shortly.
Once redeemed, the bottles and cans will be stored onsite in a shipping container to be emptied by TOMRA when full.
TOMRA said they are excited to partner with the Club to bring the Return and Earn Scheme to the local community.
