Works get underway on The Lake Way at Bungwahl.

MidCoast Council is currently undertaking work to reconstruct a section of The Lakes Way through the village of Bungwahl, south of Seal Rocks Road.

The work involves upgrading a 500 metre length of The Lakes Way with significant improvements to the road width, drainage and pavement condition.

“Previously the road pavement at this location was in poor condition and the road alignment was narrow” said Ron Hartley, Council’s Director of Engineering Services.

The work being undertaken connects with The Lakes Way reconstruction project completed in 2015 which was north of Seal Rocks Road.

Council’s Tuncurry Depot Operations staff is undertaking the project, with the initial focus being on earthworks to widen the road alignment and replace drainage lines” said Council’s Operations Manager, Robert Fish.  The work will be completed with a bitumen seal.

“To enable the works to progress the road is under alternate traffic flow conditions during working hours” said Robert Fish.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when driving through the work site and to abide by roadwork speed limits in place.

Weather permitting all work is expected to be completed by the end of October.

“MidCoast Council has an ongoing commitment to upgrade The Lakes Way.  This work is being undertaken through Council’s Regional Road Construction program with funding provided from Roads and Maritime Services Repair Program and Regional Roads Block Grant” said Ron Hartley.

“Further work on The Lakes Way in Bungwahl is expected to be undertaken in the 2017 – 2018 financial year.”
