Tea Gardens Ladies Bowling Club Pair Championship

The final of the Club Pairs Championship of the Tea Gardens Womens Bowls was played on 27 January under threatening cloudy conditions.

The team of Lily Smith and Dale Winter were opposed to the team of Vicki Rankin and Lorraine Harvey.

The first five ends were all Lily and Dale setting up 8-0 lead.

The dominating lead continued with a handy 10-4 lead at the 10th end. Then the rain came.

Vicki and Lorraine maintained their concentration and picked up a match-changing 5 on the 11th end.

Trying to retain their composure, Lily and Dale won the next end to lead 11-9 after 12 ends.

That’s where they stalled.

Vicki and Lorraine plugged away winning the next 4 ends to grab the lead setting up a 4 shot break going into the 17th end.

To their credit Lily and Dale won the 17th end, but only by one shot, leaving themselves a herculean task of winning 3 shots to force the game into extra time.

Lily drew shot on the last end but Lorraine put paid to any hope of a three when she played two delightful draw shots, making it almost impossible for Lily and Dale to make two more.

The final score ending 15-13 in favour of Vicki and Lorraine.

There was some great bowls played by both sides not the least being three outstanding conversions from Dale Winter that kept her team in the game.

Congratulations to all players on a fine match.

In social bowls, a credible 18 players turned out, a good field considering the weather.

Their game was cut short when the rain came at about 12.00 noon.

The winners for the day were: Sandra Leisemann and Veronica Conaghan.

Weather again played havoc on 29 January games, with players turning out for social bowls.

It was very windy and cool making it difficult for everyone.

The winners with the highest score were; Carol Haydon, Vicki Rankin and Deyonne Page
