After a six-day drenching, at last the sun returned to enable bowlers to enjoy the synthetic green whilst the grass recovers.

Some players probably thought that with so much rain we could not possibly bowl, but bowl we did with 38 bowlers on hand for 10 triples teams and 4 pairs teams.

The winners were Chris Ross, Dennis Ashbridge and Ron Green with 20 points on a 2-end countback

The lucky losers were Peter Campbell, Kev Barbie and Dave Perry with 14 points on a 1 end countback

Col Amos won the Garden Eatery voucher, I so much wanted it to be me as the meals are first class.

A big weekend of Pennant bowls commenced today with Grade 4, the “fabulous fours” playing host to Lemon Tree Passage.

In a tight match Tea Gardens prevailed winning the Master Board 56-44 and the points 9-1.

Grade 7, the “mighty sevens”, also played at home and pulled off a great win against Fingal Bay.

Two shots were the margin, Tea Gardens 60-58. The points 8.5 – 1.5.

They tell me the Club President had a hand in this!

Grade 5 played Fingal Bat at Fingal Bay and although winning one match they were beaten 44-71.

Grade 6, the “super sixes”, fared much better with a good win away at Karuah.

They dropped one match but ran out overall winners 71-54.

It was great to catch up with former Club President, Ken McKeown at Karuah and nice to see him well and still playing.

28 March

Round 4 of the Newcastle District Pennant competition was played today with two teams having good wins and two occasioning losses.

Grade 4 continued on its winning way with a resounding win over Wallsend.

They never dropped a match and won the master board, 78-32.

Ouch!

Grade 6 also enjoyed success away at Raymond Terrace with a gritty 62-54 win with two teams having narrow losses.

Grade 5 were unlucky not to record their first win going down to Soldiers Point 49-56 and with two teams winning their games.

The mighty sevens succumbed at home to Nelson Bay who ran away with the points and the master board 47-83.

After a heavy schedule of Pennants this weekend, the Easter break will be Pennant free and matches resuming on Saturday 10 April.
