Tea Gardens Men’s Bowling Club

31 August: After a washout last Wednesday, devotees of the weekly Nominated Triples competition were very keen to play even though conditions were far from ideal with rain not too far away.

About 50 turned up to play with both greens in use.

It was nice to see some respectability in the score with the team of; Peter (Deft-touch) Gurney, Bob Weir and Bill Whalan taking the money on +30.

In second place on +29 were; Barry Drayton, Scott Beaumont and Ron Webster.

The real applause of the day was reserved for the “Lucky Losers”; Neil Kibble, Col Amos and Dave Rimmer.

2 September: With rain just about all around, I did not expect the Friday Jackpot Open Pairs to be played.

Fifteen players felt otherwise and the managed to complete their 20 ends before the rain set in.

The lowest winning margin was selected to determine the winner and Jeff Baker and Vic Garlick managed to do that taking the money.

There were no lady bowlers present today. Perhaps the threat of rain put them off.

The Jackpot was not won.

3 September: In other news, Club Champion, Richard Lee was playing in the Newcastle District Bowling Association Champion of Club Singles Championship Singles today.

He was taking on M. Wahlstedt from Cardiff in the first round to be played at Alder Park. Richard went on to win that game but was then beaten in the second round by Lee Such from Soldiers Point.

It is good to see Tea Gardens BC represented at this very high level.

Well done Richard!

4 September: The Sunday Introduction to Bowls Programme had a great turnout for Father’s day today with 30 players taking part.

Everyone enjoyed the extra raffles and all fathers received a complimentary “scratchie”.

The winners were; Chris Stone, Pat Wilson and Ray Prigg.

Lucky losers were Kathy Stone, Laurel Laver and Dale Winter.

Thanks to the Coach, Kathie Rimmer and the Cooks, George Winter and Bary Goode.
