TUESDAY 17th September: The Semi Final of the Open Consistency Competition and social bowls.

Format for social bowls 2 games of 3 bowl Pairs 18 ends and a game of Triples 2 bowls 21 ends.

Jan Coomer and Bette Saillard led all the way and had a convincing win, 22 v 7, against Leona Clissold and Judi Polak.

Sheril Johnson and Jill McBride were winning by a margin of 7 on the 11th end in their match.

With just 7 ends left to bowl Christine Fossey and Ingrid Luck were not willing to give up, scoring 6 shots over the next 2 ends and ultimately being the victors 19 v 15.

Dawn Jones, “swinger” lead, Jean Glover and Bev Rhodes proved to be too strong an opposition for Dawn, Lyn Nightingale and Judy McGavock winning 17 v 11.

The winners on the day winning with the lowest margin were Christine Fossey and Ingrid Luck.

In the Open Consistency Semi Final Maynie Roberts defeated Sue Morris in 20 ends 151 v 49 and Robyn Beaumont won in 26 ends against Dot Dallas 155 v 105.

Thursday 19th September: A “big day” at bowls, the Final of the Open Consistency, Round 1 Minor Pairs Competition and social bowls.

Social bowls results, a win for Dot Dallas and Dale Winter 12 v Jean Glover and Kayelene Pearson 11.

Marie Reinhard and Sandra Leisemann 14 v Irene Roberts and Jill McBride 6.

Sue Morris, Dorothy Thompson and Lyn Nightingale came from behind to snatch victory from Bev Dunn, Sheila Rattray and Bev Rhodes 14 v 13.

Lynda Richards and Bette Saillard have progressed to Round 2 of the Minor Singles defeating Sheril Johnson and Judi Polak 23 v 9.

In the Open Consistency Competition, Maynie Roberts and Robyn Beaumont battled for 29 ends.

Maynie holding a narrow lead in the early stages of their contest, by the 16th end this lead had increased to 24 shots 92 v 68.

Robyn wasn’t going to give in easily, by the 25th end Maynie was ahead by just 6 shots, 128 v 122 still anyone’s game.

On the 27th end Maynie 137 and Robyn 133, the spectators were by now “sitting on the edge of their seats.”

Congratulations to Maynie who won the next 2 ends, added 15 shots to her tally winning 152 v 138.

I believe this is the 11th time that Maynie has won this Competition.

Many thanks to both bowlers for such a thrilling Final, a great demonstration of draw bowling by both especially under the extreme windy conditions.

Saturday 21st November: Dolphin Day and the ‘shirts v the skirts.”

Prior to bowls Noel Jackson, President of the Men’s Bowling Club spoke a few words in remembrance of past bowlers.

Unfortunately the result of the bowls game was a win to the “shirts” defeating the “skirts” 58 v 39.

Looking forward to another challenge in 2021.
