TUESDAY 23rd January: Round2/Semi Finals of the Club Championship Fours was played. What a wonderful display of bowling by all participants. Play on Rink 1 was a very close contest. Sandra Leisemann, Robyn Webster, Deyonne Page and Pat Baker had a lead of 4 shots on the 14th end against Robyn Beaumont, Julie Kennedy, Karen McPhie and Maynie Roberts. Maynie’s team delivered some great shots equalising the score on the 17th end and ultimately claiming victory 18 v 14. Rink 3 Sheril Johnson, Jill McBride, Wendy Jones and Olive McKeown started strongly but just didn’t “last the distance” loosing to Bette Saillard, Bev Stephens, Lynne Green and Lorraine Harvey 15 v 25.

Format for social bowls was a game of Triples and a game of Pairs. The winners on the day were Francis Betar and Dorothy Thompson.

Thursday 25th January: No social bowls played, the hot weather deterring most bowlers. The final of the Fours Competition went ahead as scheduled and what a thrilling game of bowls this was. Bette Saillard, Bev Stephens, Lynne Green and Lorraine Harvey v Robyn Beaumont, Julie Kennedy, Karen McPhie and Maynie Roberts. Lorraine’s team holding the lead 6 v 0 on the 3rd end, 7th end just 1 shot difference between the scores. On the 13th end they had increased the winning margin by 8 shots. Maynie’s team attempted a come back narrowing Lorraine’s lead to just 3 shots on the 18th end. With 3 ends left to play I guess Lorraine’s side could sense victory was close at hand especially after winning the next 2 ends and adding 4 to their tally. Maynie’s team won the final end, scoring 3 shots but this wasn’t enough for them to win the game. Final score 21 v 17. Thanks to Controlling Body Karen Green and Umpire Francis Betar and also to Dale Winter for preparing lunch.

Congratulations to Robyn Beaumont who bowled with the Newcastle District Team on the 20th and 21st January at Lambton Park. Newcastle District defeated the team from the ACT.

Pennant Season commences on Tuesday 30th January good bowling to our 4 teams competing in this competition.

Hopefully 2018 will see our club bringing home a Pennant Flag. Social bowls will still be played during this time.
