PENNANT Season began for our Grade 4 sides on Tuesday 19th March. Our Grade 4 Yellow side travelled to Merewether for their first game. Interestingly, Merewether has not entered a side in Pennant for 13 years, so this is a historical year for them. Our teams won in both their games gaining the magical 5 points, a good start for their season. The Grade 4 Blues bowled at Nelson Bay on a very heavy green without success. This side is comprised of a number of new bowlers plus this is the first time 4 of the ladies have ever played Pennant. It was a different story for them on Thursday 21st March when we had a home game. The Blues had a win against Edgeworth giving them 4 points and placing them 3rd in their section. The Yellow side defeated Lowlands adding another 5 points to their tally putting them in a good position in their section, remembering it’s early days yet. On Thursday, it was great to have so many supporters cheering/encouraging our bowlers you all did a great job in spurring us to victory. Thanks, Sandra Leisemann for Umpiring. Everyone has commented on our wonderful new shirts, many thanks to our Major Sponsor Mick Rumble, Principal First National Real Estate Hawks Nest for our new shirts as well as your continuing sponsorship of our club. Our Grade 4 teams have a bye on Tuesday 26th and play at home on Thursday 28th. The Grade 2 Pennant side bowl their first game on the 2nd April at Soldiers Point.

Social bowls continues as usual during the Pennant Season with an at home competition running. On Tuesday 19th, 2 games of 2 bowls Triples 18 ends. Robyn Beaumont, Deyonne Page and Lynne Green were leading 11 v 1 on the 6th end against Sandra Leisemann, Maynie Roberts and Pat Baker. Unfortunately Lynne’s team didn’t add to their score for the next 8 ends compared to the 14 shots that Pat’s ladies gained. The final result a win for Pat’s team 20 v 14. A close contest for Bev Rhodes, Dorothy Thompson and Bette Saillard 16 v Sheril Johnson, Jo Younghusband and Carol Hayden 14. The winners with a win plus shots and ends were Sandra, Maynie and Pat.

Thursday 21st March: Two games 3 bowls Triples 12 ends. Trish Ward, Dorothy Thompson and Bette Saillard 13 v Bev Dunn, Jo Younghusband and Lynne Green 8. Liv Everingham, Bev Rhodes and Pat Baker defeated Margaret Wigman, Carolyn Bywater and Maynie Roberts 4. Birthday greetings to Bev Rhodes.

The Semi Final of the Major Singles will be played on Tuesday 26th, March.
