Will entered the Hunter High School rock band expose, BandWidth, run by Hunter School of the Performing Arts at the end of 2018.

Will never imagined he would be recording four original songs at 16 years of age.

The ‘Ellipsis’ group is Grace Neal, Lilly Sullivan, Athena Christiansen, Lulu Graham and Port Stephens own will MacKenzie.

The musicians collaborate with each relying on their strengths of songwriting, singing, playing an instrument, or a combination.

Although the students have very different musical tastes they worked well together and their band ‘Ellipsis’ was born.

The students started writing songs together and playing them at school.

Their music teachers were impressed and suggested they enter the BandWidth competition.

BandWidth gives high school students a platform to perform in front of and receive feedback from music industry professionals as well as a chance to win recording studio time.

As entries for BandWidth are limited, video of entrants is submitted to organisers with the best being selected to perform at the finals.

‘Ellipsis’ received selection for the finals which were held on 9 November, 2018 at the Hunter Theatre, Broadmeadow.

‘Ellipsis’ played three original songs and a cover, narrowly missing first place as the band incurring a competition rule infraction for exceeding their allotted 15 minute slot.

They did win the awards for Best Vocals and Best Original Song with Cold Hearted, a song written collectively by the band.

Video clips of all finalist performances were uploaded to Bandwidth’s Youtube site where a public vote decided the outright winner.

‘Ellipsis’ won the voting competition and the major prize of a professionally produced single from Sawtooth Studios.

February 2019 saw the band record four songs with completion of the final mix due at the end of March 2019.

Once completed the tracks will be uploaded to Spotify and other major music sites.

EAO Entertainment, a major sponsor of Bandwidth has booked ‘Ellipsis’ to play Live and Local at Lizottes in Lambton on 27 March 2019.
