IRRAWANG High School has created a fantastic new initiative to assist students wanting to improve academically, as well as providing a safe environment for an after school activity.

Every Monday afternoon, dedicated Irrawang teachers will give up their afternoons to the brand new ‘Snack N Study’ program.

Commencing on Monday 13 February, the Irrawang High School library will be open from 3:30pm until 5:30pm.

These invested teachers will be on hand to provide students with the opportunity for assistance with homework, assessment tasks and assignments, in the relaxed library atmosphere.

Afternoon tea is provided for all students participating in the program.

Effective afterschool programs bring a wide range of benefits to youth, families and communities.

Afterschool programs can boost academic performance, reduce risky behaviors, promote self confidence, and provide a safe, structured environment for the children of working parents.

Supported study environments can assist with improving classroom behavior,  school attendance, academic aspirations, and can reduce the likelihood that a student will drop out.

School representative Luella Fagan told News Of The Area, “We have had wonderful feedback about this program, and we are really looking forward to its commencement.”

“We are lucky to have such dedicated teachers on staff, who are willing to give up even more time away from home to help our students.”

“We certainly are a school that has the best interests of our students at heart,” she said.
