WIRREANDA Public School is proud to present its new school leaders for 2017.
In a busy start to the school year, with the swimming carnival already held, and the arrival of a new classroom, Wirreanda Public School has started at full speed.
An early school year priority for many schools is the induction of its school leaders.
At an assembly on Monday, 6 February, the school leadership team were presented to the school population.
When asked what being a leader meant, Will Phillips, one of the Captains told Medowie News Of The Area, “Being school leader means I will meet new people and take on new responsibilities.”
“I look forward to representing the school and preparing myself more for High School through leadership.”
Captain Andie Archer said, “Participating in new events and working with peers and assisting younger students in the school” was something to look forward to in 2017.
School leadership in primary school, whether or not in an official position, can be a stepping stone to building skills and taking on responsibilities with confidence well into the teenage years.
The NSW Department of Education recognises the importance of developing leadership capacity in students, with the ‘Wellbeing for Schools Framework and School Excellence Framework” ensuring that schools “provide opportunities for meaningful student participation and leadership, including student voice and decision making.”
The Department of Education recognises some ways to encourage leadership include: getting students actively involved in school decision making, encourage participation in school and community events, encourage volunteering, and to provide inclusive opportunities that celebrate diversity.
