“An amazing 150 entries were received for the two categories of two dimensional and three dimensional art pieces,” said Anderson Art Award coordinator Ian Morphett.

“This number of entries makes this the largest ever art exhibition on the Myall Coast.”

Two prizes of $3,000 as well as two $500 Highly Commended awards will be announced at an invitation-only opening event at the Gallery on Friday 14 April by Ms Kim Blunt, Senior Curator of the Maitland Regional Art Gallery.

“This inaugural competition celebrates the contributions to the arts on the Myall Coast over many years by Lee and Rob Anderson,” said Ian.

“For example, in 2017 they purchased an historic cottage on the Tea Gardens Myall River waterfront and offered it to the Galleries in the Gardens (GiG) cooperative of 50 local artists to operate as a not-for-profit art gallery.

“Celebrating its 5th anniversary in 2022, ‘The Gallery’ has been a great success with high visitation rates, many art sales and frequent return visits.

“The art prize organisers thank our major sponsors, Sheargold Property Developments, Burton Automotive Group and Galleries in the Gardens, for supporting this wonderful event.”
