IN the Bay there’s plenty of serious business going on out on the bowling greens.

We have more than our fair share of pennant winners and champions.

There’s also some not so serious bowlers who are all about fitness, fun and friendship.

One such group are the Nelson Bay Travelling Marlins who are members and a sub club of the Nelson Bay Bowling Club.

News of the Area caught up with the Travelling Marlins while they were serving up sausage sandwiches at Bunnings Taylors Beach.

The Travelling Marlins are a friendly bunch of bowlers that get around the region and play bowls with other like minded teams, who they also host here in the Bay for fun days.

Bernadette Carroll a member of the Nelson Bay Travelling Marlins “We are just back from a trip to the Central Coast, and it is actually all about fun.”

The Travelling Marlins mixed bowlers fund raise to subsides their trips and support the Nelson Bay Bowling Club.

They travel to destinations such as Denman in the Hunter Valley for games of bowls.

This group of bowlers would be happy to welcome new members, it only costs $10 to join the Nelson Bay Travelling Marlins for life.

“It is not serious bowling it is more about fun and they often visit wineries prior to their matches,” she said.
