THE Coffs Coast Tigers mauled the Macleay Valley Rangers 6-0 in the Coastal Premier League (CPL) on Saturday at Polwarth Drive.

The Tigers imposed their high press from the opening whistle and fizzed the ball around to control possession and create chances.

It was a complete team performance where six different players hit the back of the net.

Innocent David opened the scoring from a well worked team goal and Taj Buck, Dakota Bennett, Arma Mite, Jacob Field and Marcus Field added to the tally.

“Outstanding” that was how captain and goalkeeper Luke Kliendienst simply described the performance.

“I feel we had a very dominant performance as I didn’t have much work to do,” he said.

“All the boys were outstanding and are pushing more and more each week, our goal is to get better and better before we hit the finals,” he said.

“I feel we moved the ball around well, pulling the Rangers out of shape until we could drive in and take our chances, in the first half we were very patient, which was good to see,” said Luke.

The Tigers have hit a rich vein of form at the business end of the season with a CPL Premiership in their reach.

The Tigers and Coffs City United Lions have raised the bar in this season’s CPL and are neck and neck at the top of first-grade CPL with the Lions playing one game less.

Saturday’s showdown at Forsyth Park on 20 August between the Lions and Tigers is a key match that may determine if the Lions retain the CPL premiership for the third year or whether the Tigers claim their first title.

The match kicks off at 5pm with the reserve clash kicking off at 3pm.
