Tilligerry Oyster Shack giving something back for Cancer

: Gone but never forgotten: Kate with a portrait of Garry which takes pride of place on the counter at The Oyster Shack.

WELL known local businessman Garry Slater passed away some two years ago after a battle with cancer.

He was 64.

Since then his wife Kate has wanted to ‘put something back’ as she was greatly moved by the care he was given at Newcastle Private Hospital.

All moneys collected will be forwarded to the Cancer Council.

Currently she is selling books and raffle tickets at ‘The Oyster Shack’.

Patrons, waiting for their takeaway meals, can actually see the progress of the fundraiser on a cardboard ‘thermometer’ which runs up the wall.

The monster raffle has some 40 prizes in total, the major one being a ‘getaway’ weekend at Terrigal Crowne Plaza.

That’s not all!

On Sunday 19 March the forecourts of The Oyster Shack, Tilligerry Medical Centre and Portside Real Estate will come alive with a Motorama display, oyster tasting, a coffee van selling Devonshire teas and bric-a brac stalls.

Koko the clown will be there. Kate is also having her head shaved.

The action starts at 10am and goes through to 3pm.
