THE winners of the 12-15 years Short Film Category for the PS24 Creative Challenge were champions in more ways than one when they donated their prize money equally between two very worthy local organisations.
The 24-hour challenge, organised by Port Stephens Council and its Youth Advisory Panel, invited young people in the Port Stephens area to unleash their creative sides by producing a short story, poem, photograph, illustration, song or short film within a 24-hour time limit.
This year’s theme, released at the start of the 24-hour timeframe, was: “Who is your champion in the Port Stephens community?”
A champion could be interpreted as a person, a group, a team or even a place.
The 12-15 years Short Film Category winners call themselves the ‘Sun’s Up Crew’.
Local friends for many years, Mason Aurino, Beau Bramble, Taine Bramble, Jaiden Cavanagh, Hayden Davey and Tom Glenn also entered the competition last year.
Champions to the end, their generous donation of $100 was given to the Suicide Prevention Network and Port Stephens Koalas.
The “champions” in their short film were Dave Sams from the Suicide Prevention Network and Simone Aurino from Port Stephens Koalas.
Group participant Beau Bramble told News Of The Area, “It was hard with the weather during the 24-hour Challenge, but easy to find everyday heroes locally in Anna Bay and Boat Harbour like Dave and Simone.”
“They are absolute champions for the causes they represent and the youth of today appreciate and recognise their efforts through this Port Stephens Council 24 Creative Challenge initiative.”
Beau encouraged other local kids to unleash their creative talents for next year’s competition.
“I hope to see more kids out there for the challenge next year, whatever the weather,” he said.
