Ronald Bergan, Liz Bergan and Dave Kilroy proudly displayed their haul of medals from their recent success at Pan Pacific Masters Games at Jupiter’s on the Gold Coast.

Dave Kilroy, 65 of Nelson Bay, brought home 7 medals consisting of 3 gold and 4 silver.

Mr Kilroy told News of the Area, “I started this style of martial arts three-and-a-half years ago, before that I was doing ITF style for six years.”

“Wanting to keep fit, learn self-defence and remain mentally alert were what drove me to Martial Arts.”

Ronald Bergan, Master Instructor, of Salamander Bay, brought home 2 gold and 2 silver medals.

Mr Bergan explains, “Tae Kwon Do is about focus, self-confidence, courtesy, integrity and physical fitness.”

“These are attributes needed to be a good person within the community.”

Mr Bergan said, “This is a sport which you can compete at all age groups, we have participants from four to 65 years old here at Him-Do.”

Liz Bergan, also of Salamander Bay, brought home 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

“There were four ladies in the Team Pattern group, and the only contact we had was through messenger prior to the event.

When we met each other we had time for two practice runs and walked away with a Bronze medal,” she said.

Mr Bergan would like to thank their sponsors, Village Grind, Novus Auto Glass and Wear Kids Play for their continued support.

Mr Bergan said, “People need to know it is a sport and not ‘just’ martial art.”

The team at Him-Do Tae Kwon Do are currently organising the Third Port Stephens Taekwondo Championship taking place in March 2017.
