100 riders pushed their pedals to raise money to support local community groups, and cancer research.

The Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group were grateful recipients of a $10,000 donation from Tour de Cure.

Riders raised funds to participate in the ride which was split over two tours.

Nelson Bay was the start leg of tour B and riders left at 6.45am after breakfast at Fly Point on their 111km journey to Pokolbin, which stopped at Riverside Park in Raymond Terrace for a snack.

Viera Macikova, Westpac employee and rider on the Tour B Tour de Cure 2018 told News Of The Area, “Seeing the first bunch of riders coming into sunny Nelson Bay was overwhelming.

“Just knowing how far they’d come left me feeling nervous about what lay ahead as I prepared to do the reverse route back to Sydney.

“As I left early the next morning to a massive applause from support crew and onlookers, the stunning scenery took my mind off my nerves and I enjoyed the whole experience.”

“The Westpac Tour 201 tour was an achievement that I am very proud of and I will remember forever.

“I met so many wonderful, kind, generous and funny people and many will remain friends for life. It was also wonderful to see our executives being closely involved, it shows care for our people and really demonstrates the company values and our culture.

Over the last few months I learned many lessons and had realisations that will hopefully make me a stronger and a better person. I am honoured to be part of the Westpac and Tour de Cure family,” she said.

Tour de Cure had a total of 212 riders and 63 support crew.

Riders travelled 313km’s on the route and 3000 children will benefit from participation in the Tour de Cure Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy cancer education experience.
