LOOK out Tilligerry Trekkers, a new group of walkers has rocked into town and they mean business.
Port Stephens Walkers turned up in town recently for a day’s rambling around the boardwalks and nature trails.
News Of The Area caught up with them at the beginning of their trek and their day’s outing was truly full on.
Striding out from Koala Reserve Lemon Tree Passage, they headed down the boardwalk and skirted the foreshore as far as the caravan park.
From here it was on to the lookout at the top of the hill near the main road.
They then pressed on to Mallabula, through the ‘Habitat’ and along Tanilba’s waterfront.
It was then back along the foreshore to Caswell Reserve Mallabula for lunch.
To complete their grand tour they followed the rim of the bay back to Lemon Tree and their waiting bus.
When you consider that some of the ladies were in their late seventies, this feat was somewhat Herculean.
The group functions under the umbrella of Sport and Recreation and individual members plan outings.
In this case, former resident Lucy Sorenson organised the day.
“We hire a mini bus and have ventured as far afield as Cape Hawke (Forster) and Mangrove Mountain,” she said.
“It’s lovely to be back and we will be on the lookout for koalas and the native orchids which bloom at this time of year, she added.”
“We are all retired and work on the principle of: ‘If you don’t use it you lose it!’” she said.
