Ms Bunk purchased her dream house on Medowie Road with the understanding that the bushland at the rear of her home was a designated wildlife corridor and was not slated for future development.

Less than a month after purchasing her home Ms Bunk was notified that a Development Application for a residential land sub-division had been lodged with Port Stephens Council for the land behind Ms Bunk’s home.

The Development Application for 799 and 813 Medowie Road was subsequently approved.

Main access to the development is via Peppertree Road but after consultation with the Rural Fire Service it seems that one access is not sufficient and a second access is proposed from Medowie Road.

The proposal is for a simple ‘left in and left out’ access with road widening on Medowie Road.

With approval for Tallowood Over 50’s Resort, the release of more land in the Bower Estate and a new residential housing development on Medowie Road set to go ahead, traffic on the already busy road is likely to increase.

“Due to the proximity of the Silver Wattle Drive intersection to the proposed access I am concerned by the potential for congestion as well as serious accidents particularly at peak traffic times,” Ms Bunk told News Of The Area.

Ms Bunk said that Heavy vehicle traffic on Medowie Road is another concern.

“I would like to see the Medowie Road access as an Emergency Vehicle Only access.” said Ms Bunk.

“One of the solutions suggested is the road be signed as Local Residents Only but there is a strong possibility that people will use the road as a shortcut to get to Medowie’s supermarkets and ignore the signposting.”

Ms Bunk is hoping that she and other local residents can engage with Council to achieve an outcome that is workable for existing and new residents.
