This weekend there is a special triathlon event which is open to all and is suitable for most people.

The Club has been operating in Port Stephens for 26 years and this weekend the race is the Dave Swan Memorial Race.

Tomaree Triathlon Club member and Port Stephens Councillor Sarah Smith is passionate about Triathlon and the health and fitness benefits of the sport, she told News Of The Area, “This weekend allows people to try out the sport, it’s a short course of a 300m swim, 11 km bike ride and 3 km run.”

The race starts at the jetty behind Salamander Shores and entry is $15 which includes insurance.

The event will raise funds for the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group who have received $1800 from the event in the past 2 years.

“I’d encourage anyone to come down and give it a go,” she said.

Water safety will be provided for the event by Birubi Surf Life Saving Club.

The Club competes the second Sunday of the month September to April with competitors travelling from as far afield as Denman and Singleton to participate in the events.

There is also a Splash for Cash 250m fundraising swim being held on Sunday.

All you need is comfortable clothes which cover the torso and enthusiasm.

Tcece Campbell of the Tomaree Triathlon Club said, “We have a great community and promote safe cycling and give back to our community.”

Tomaree Triathlon Club invites everyone to come along and give Tri a Try.
