IN recognition of Greyhound Adoption Month, for this week’s Word On The Street, we asked locals who own a greyhound what their experience has been and what is so good about this breed.

“My greyhound is an interesting case. He is the only dog in the country (to my knowledge) that was removed from the mother at birth (she had a c-section). I was vet nursing at the time and he was left for euthanasia due to his compromised state at birth. I struck a deal with the owner and he was hand raised by me, and was still recognised by Racing NSW for registration as a racing dog!”

Aubrey: “I like watching him run around and playing fetch. He also lets us groom him and he never hurts us.”
Xander: “I like brushing, patting and shampooing him.”
Photo 2: Buddy the greyhound.
Mel Taylor: “Buddy is funny and goofy and just a pleasure to have in the family.”
Photo 3: Elizabeth Kilday and Gemma the greyhound.
Elizabeth: “I just love her and I play with her. We also like doing nothing together.”
Photo 4: Michael Kilday and Neddy the greyhound.
Michael: “I like Neddy because he sometimes rubs my belly with his tail. Neddy is happy when he is inside the house.”
