A Man has been charged after a firearm and sword were allegedly located during a vehicle stop north of Newcastle on the weekend.
About 8.30 am on Friday 9 December 2016, police from Port Stephens Local Area Command responded to reports of a suspicious car in Salt Ash Avenue, Salt Ash about 35km north of Newcastle.E

Officers stopped and spoke to a man standing next to a grey Holden Commodore.
A subsequent search of the man and his car located a shortened double-barrelled shotgun and a samurai sword.
Both items were secured for forensic examination.
A 40-year-old man was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.
He was charged with possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority and custody of knife in public place.
The man was refused bail and appeared before Maitland Local Court on Friday 9 December 2016 and was granted conditional bail to re-appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 13 February 2016.
