ARCHERY at the PCYC Nelson Bay has stepped things up a notch with their inaugural quarterly presentation event held 18 September.

As part of continuous quality improvement, the club members decided it would be fun to hold ‘in-house’ competitions.

And of course that meant they would be presenting trophies.

Coach, Dave Pemberton of Medowie has been a volunteer coach at the PCYC Nelson Bay for 9 years and is driven by the kids.

“Always said if it wasn’t for keeping the kids off the street, I wouldn’t be here,” Dave said.

Dave would love to see the archery club continue to grow and new members are always welcome.

“Trial sessions are available,” he said.

There are two groups, juniors 8 – 18 years and seniors 18 years onwards.

Apart from closed in shoes, the weekly fee covers all you need to experience archery.

The recipients of awards for this quarter are:

Amber Lee, 14 years old of Medowie took out the highest weekly score at 10 metres.

Taryn, 13 years old of Medowie took out the most improved at 10 metres.

Adam, 14 years of Medowie took out highest score at 20 metres and also the Robin Hood award.

Dane, 9 years old took out most improved at 20 meters.

Taryn said, “Best part of archery is hanging out with friends and I enjoy a little bit of competition between friends.”

“Archery is everything to me, the friendly competition between all of the juniors is what inspires me to attend regularly,” Adam told News Of The Area.

Mackenzie Hicks, 17 as well as being a keen archer, is also an aspiring manufacturing jeweller, the thing that sees him attending regularly is “Enjoying the repertoire”.

Dave would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Jo Baxter for creating the trophies.
