“Both Madisson and I have struggled with the loss of my father to pancreatic cancer.

“I cannot imagine the pain, confusion and heartbreak a family must go through when a child is forced to battle this horrible disease,” Brad said.

Over 600 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, three children die every week.

The funds raised during the Great Cycle Challenge will help the Children’s Medical Research Institute find a cure.

Brad and Madisson have set themselves a large fundraising target and aim to pedal 150 kilometres around Hawks Nest by the end of October.

“My father was a staunch supporter of kids’ cancer appeals,” Brad said.

“We both thought the cycle challenge would be a way in which we could honour his memory whilst helping to do what he no longer can.”

Brad and Madisson have raised over $4000 so far thanks to the support of their family and friends in the local community.

The Great Cycle Challenge started in 2013 and has grown to become one of the biggest cycling events in Australia.

More than 11,000 riders are taking part this year, with the common vision of a world without cancer, where all kids are living life, not fighting for it.

“I am very proud to have raised Madisson in such a way that she understands the importance of having a go to help causes such as the Great Cycle Challenge,” Brad said.

Many local businesses have got behind the fundraising including Rod Morrison Gyprocking, Tea Gardens Dental Clinic, Myall Coast Legal, John Rumble Hawks Nest Real Estate, Freedom Homes and Kim Burton Maitland Toyota.

“There are so many more that could make a tax-deductible donation,” Brad said.
