THE recent lockdown has resulted in the cancellation of a number of this season’s finals series.

Coffs Harbour Baseball Association were due to play their finals series before the lockdown was implemented last month.

Due to the restrictions on community sport which still remain, Coffs Harbour Baseball Association has made the decision to not continue its 2021 season.

In a video announcement on social media, Coffs Harbour Baseball Association President Ben McCall outlined the reason for the cancellation of the season.

“It was with regret that I make this announcement this evening, based on the information that we received at 11am this morning from our Deputy Premier in relations to lockdown being lifted at midnight tomorrow night, we will not be able to continue our 2021 season based on community sport not coming out of that lockdown,” he said.

“Unfortunately we are in three weeks of finals and it’s sad to have to finish the season this way.

“We have no timing on when community sport is going to return and our winter season has to end at some stage.

“The committee and I are very saddened by this news today, but we hope to see you on the park in 2022 for a bigger and better season.”

Sawtell/Toormina Dodgers finished the season as A-grade minor premiers, while the Woolgoolga Blue Sox were minor premiers of the B-grade competition.

The Coffs Harbour Allstars were minor premiers of the junior competition.

The Coffs Harbour Baseball Association’s season was held each Saturday at the Coffs Coast Sport & Leisure Park fields, with A-grade, B-grade and junior competitions.
