This worthy institution was established in 1930 to give holidays by the sea for poor and undernourished children from the far west of the state.

Many had never seen the ocean and Stewart House, built on the waterfront at Curl Curl Beach in Sydney, gave them a much needed break from disadvantaged circumstances.

Today, it hosts many city based children who need time out from troubled domestic situations.

Lloyd, a volunteer for Stuart House, has a problem.

He told News Of The Area, “I wrote to some 86 schools in the Hunter about our ‘Day at the Races’ (11 November) and the response was overwhelming; so much so that the 150 tickets have sold out!”

“We are still running a raffle in tandem with the fund raising day and local support has been fantastic. There are over $4 000 in prizes up for grabs and the RSL and Club Lemon Tree can be thanked for the bulk of the donations.”
