“It is time to retire,” Dick told News Of The Area.

“It has been an enjoyable experience.”

Dick said the best part of his 17 years in business, has been the people he has met.

“I am certainly going to miss that” he said.

The popular Stroud Street eatery in Bulahdelah featured a robust menu of burgers, light meals and homemade pies and cakes.

“What a little gem,” a reviewer recently stated on TripAdvisor.

“The homemade lamb shank pie was absolutely delicious and the vanilla slice, made on the premises, was to die for.”

The Café has been an integral part of the community, using locally sourced produce and providing employment for more than 20 locals over the years, including several apprentices.

With his apron now hung up, Dick said he has plenty of things planned to keep himself occupied.

“It is now time to go and do some of the things I want to do,” he said.

“I am going to play some golf, do some gardening and do some travel, I am actually going to Europe in the next few weeks,”

Although Dick has retired, Detours will continue to be a part of the town, under the management of the new owners.
