Great Lakes Mayor Jan McWilliams, monthly update

Active Ageing Strategy for Great Lakes

OUR Council area has one of the ‘oldest’ populations in Australia and it is vitally important that our plans for the future provide for the needs of an ageing population.
With this in mind, Council has partnered with COTA (formerly Council on the Ageing) to develop an Active Ageing Strategy for the Great Lakes.
The Strategy is now on public exhibition and now is the time for you to provide us with some feedback on the Draft.
You can view the Strategy on Council’s website, or in person at any of our Customer Service Centres in Forster, Stroud and Tea Gardens.Great Lakes Mayor's column

Marine Drive, Tea Gardens roadworks

GREAT Lakes Council has commenced works to reconstruct Marine Drive along the Tea Gardens foreshore.
The works are being undertaken along Marine Drive between Ogden Street and Maxwell Street, linking with upgrade works undertaken in 2011.
The roadworks involve replacing kerb and gutter, upgrading drainage and reconstructing the road pavement.
The new road pavement will be finished with an asphalt surfacing.
Works are being staged to limit disruption given the nature of the works and the business district location and alternative pedestrian access to businesses will be provided.
We apologise for inconvenience caused.

Father’s Day Prostate Cancer Awareness Day

IF you are looking for some great entertainment for Dad on Father’s Day Sunday 7 September, come along to the Prostate Cancer Awareness Day which has been organised by the local state member Steve Bromhead and is supported by Great Lakes Council.
There’s going to be free entertainment at John Wright Park on stage every half hour between 10am and 2pm, as well as free face painting and a jumping castle for children.
The Great Lakes Woodworkers and the Lakesters Hot Rods will be having displays and there will be eight men’s sheds from around Forster and Taree on display.
Angry Anderson will be there – it is going to be a real community day with the Lions Club supporting the event with food and drink stalls.
