THIS year marks fifty years since the battle of Long Tan in the Vietnam War, so this year’s Vietnam Day remembrance ceremony in Medowie held even more special significance.
Vietnam Veterans Day is commemorated on August 18 every year.

Medowie RSL sub-branch hosted a special service at the Medowie Lions Club Memorial Park at 11am.
The service was attended by a wonderful selection of community representatives who laid wreathes, including, but not limited to, Medowie Christian School, Medowie Public School, Kate Washington Local Member for Port Stephens, News Of The Area publications, representatives for Meryl Swanson, representatives for Port Stephens Council, local Lions Club, churches, women’s auxiliary and sub branches of the RSL.
The main speakers were Bob Parish, President of the Medowie RSL Sub branch, and Brian Boughton, Vice-president of the Maitland RSL sub branch.
Both speeches were moving and full of emotion and reflection.
Medowie Public School and Medowie Christian School can be commended on the wonderful conduct of their student representatives.
It was a special morning that certainly showed how lucky we are to be a part of a community like Medowie.
News Of The Area would like to take this opportunity to thank our returned servicemen for their sacrifices and service.
