The paper recently expanded into the Tilligerry Peninsula.

Bucking the trend that there is limited to no demand for print media, your local newspaper provides high quality reporting in its weekly news, and is independently owned and operated.

With an average readership of 2000 per week, this community newspaper is having a big impact.

The first edition was published on 2 June, 2016.

Reporter since the first edition, Simone Johnson, also a journalism student at the University of Newcastle, said “Working with NOTA has given me experience in the industry that I am studying to become a part of.”

Ms Johnson, who has recently been awarded a coveted internship with the ABC added, “It means I have been able to meet new friends in the community and share stories that need to be heard.”

Seasoned journalist, Geoff Walker, joined the newspaper when it expanded into the Tilligerry Peninsula.

Mr Walker said, “In a world of rapid change, young people head for their smart phones whereas the older generation like the traditional print format they can peruse at their leisure.”

“NOTA caters for both groups.”

“A local paper also creates a sense of belonging and community.”

“I like being able to help people with positive articles and stories which recognise and give a voice to all those little people who contribute to the betterment and progress of the district.”

Medowie-based reporter, Ms Rachael Vaughan said, “The opportunity to not only be part of a wonderful community, but to also record it, is so fantastic.”

“Local history and local stories are so important and I love that I get to be a part of the storytelling.”
