Orara Valley Hockey Club sisters selected to Australian teams

IT’s not unusual for sisters to be playing sport together.

But it’s rare when they both represent their country at the same time.

Tania Pollock and Nardie Gream will share this special moment next month in New Zealand.

The Orara Valley Hockey Club players have been selected to represent Australia at the Oceania Trans-Tasman Masters Hockey Challenge to be played in Christchurch in May.

Pollock is part of the over 40s Australian team, while Gream was selected to the over 35s team, with both players a part of their leadership groups.

The sisters were selected to their respective national teams after standout performances playing for NSW at the National Championships in Cairns.

They will now take on New Zealand teams in a tri series early next month.

Pollock said she and her sister couldn’t wait to play in the green and gold.

“It’s our first Australian selection, so we are both pretty excited,” she said.

“I’m super keen to wear the green and gold and represent Australia.

“And it’s even more special that we were both selected, and also to both be selected to the leadership team.

“Spewing we couldn’t be on the same team, but we’ll try when she comes up in age as there’s a three-year difference.”

The sisters have played together since their early days growing up in Grafton.

“We’ve both been playing hockey since we were three or four, and played on the same junior, school, and rep teams in Grafton,” Tania said.

“We’ve played for NSW teams since, and now it’s special we’re both playing for Australia at the same time.”
